What do we expect will happen after a year at Amate House?
Our hope and expectation is that after a year at Amate House, our volunteers will be better equipped and prepared to act as leaders in the church and world. Through the experience of direct service to those in need, regular reflection on this service, community living, and various educational and formational opportunities, we hope and expect that our Volunteers will grow more aware of themselves and the world around them and thus better able and more likely to act as instruments of God's love and justice in the world.
It is our hope that by the end of the year, Amate House Volunteers will:
- Have a more integrated understanding of the place of service in their life.
- Express a deepened sense of their own faith life and an enriched understanding of their relationship with God.
- Think more critically about existing social problems and their possible solutions.
- Have had a concrete experience of "community building" ; and, (therefore) have greater skills in participating and building strong communities (with all that entails) in other areas of their life.
- Have encountered a variety of opportunities and methods for reflecting critically on their life and work experiences.
- Have an increased ability to describe their life and service experiences in relation to their language of faith and to their own unique faith journey.
- Have experienced living an intentionally simple lifestyle and have reflected on the value of living 'more simply'.
- Feel more empowered and more able to act as Christian leaders in the Church and world.
- Grow more committed to contributing their lives and their work to the building of a more just and loving world.
